Review : Using the health belief model with sick children

This article critically evaluates the health belief model in relation to children's nursing practice
The influence of such diverse issues as sickness behaviours, developmental differences, cultural and socio-economic status are considered
The health belief model is a useful means of trying to understand chronically sick children's attitudes to treatment
Knowledge of family health beliefs may help to develop health promotion programmes that foster position beliefs
