Pre-operative awareness for children with implantable ports

{blacksquare} Implantable central venous access devices CVADs have increased in their use.

{blacksquare} A Portacath makes venous access quicker and reduces the trauma associated with siting a peripheral cannula.

{blacksquare} Children with cystic fibrosis have benefited from the use of the Portacath.

{blacksquare} This study explored the information requirements of twenty six children with cystic fibrosis, and their families who already had an implantable port fitted.

{blacksquare} Nineteen families had received no written information relating to having a Portacath and seventeen wanted more information.

{blacksquare} The development of a book was thought appropriate to compliment the other educational strategies already in use.
